Pool Schedule

Want to swim a few laps? Our heated pools are open year-round! Lane sharing is sometimes required depending on the number of people in the pool. Kick boards, pull buoys, hand paddles, and resistance bells are available for member use. Pool dimensions: Length 25 yards, width 28 feet, depth 4-5 feet, 4 lanes.

LAP SWIM ETIQUETTE & CIRCLE SWIMMING

Help keep the pool a welcoming place for all of our lap swimmers! Remember, the pool is a shared space and all lap swimmers need to be prepared to share a lane. Please put yourself in your fellow swimmer’s shoes (or goggles, if you will) and graciously share your lane when a request is made. Everyone appreciates patience and courtesy, so please keep this in mind when sorting out lane sharing. We are all here to enjoy pool exercise regardless if it’s by lap swimming, water walking, or kick boarding.

Lane Designations & Entering the Water

  • Select a lane compatible with your preferred swimming speed.
  • If two people share a lane, you may split the lane.
  • To enter an occupied lane, make eye contact, wait for the swimmer to acknowledge that you are entering, and receive an okay. Sometimes you may need to waive a kick board underwater to get their attention as they may not see you right away.
  • Enter the water feet first. Diving is not allowed.
  • Butterfly and breast strokes cannot be accommodated when sharing a lane.

Circle Swimming

  • Swimmers are required to follow the circle swim pattern.
  • Three or more swimmers per lane should circle swim.
  • The customary traffic pattern is to stay to the right—that is, to swim in a counter clockwise circle. (Treat the lane like a highway by swimming on the right-hand side of the lane according to your direction of motion.)
  • Always swim complete laps of the pool. Avoid stopping in the middle of the lane as this can interfere with the progress of other swimmers and cause collisions.
  • Stop only at the wall and, once stopped, stay in the corner of the lane, preferably in the left-hand corner (from the perspective of the approach to the wall). Other lap swimmers need space to turn. Always leave the middle 1/3 of the wall clear for turning purposes.

Speed

  • Slower swimmers must yield to faster swimmers.
  • Be aware of your space in the lane and orientation of others. If you are approaching the wall and another lap swimmer is gaining on you and swimming at a faster rate than you are, pause at the wall to allow the faster swimmer(s) to pass you.
  • Be courteous of drafting (aka “tailgating). Provide adequate distance between you and the swimmer ahead of you.

Passing

  • Pass on the left-hand side. (Be careful you don’t bump into any oncoming swimmers.) If you are the slower swimmer and being overtaken at the turn, stop and wait until the other swimmer has pushed off the wall.
  • When using kick boards, please be aware of other swimmers in your lane and their needs to pass.
