Manager’s MessageNancy

Dear Members,

Spring is a wonderful time of the year and a busy one at the club! Do check out all of the great activities we have going on in the month of March.

If you are a cyclist you won't want to miss our very first Tour de Parkpoint (link) outdoor cycling event led by the Club sponsored pro team, NorCal Bike Sport. This awesome group of pro cyclists will lead three rides from club to club. Our first ride from the Santa Rosa Club to the Healdsburg Club is on Saturday, March 20th. The second ride from Santa Rosa ends at the Sonoma Club on Saturday, April 17th. The final big ride starts at the Sonoma Club and goes all the way to the Healdsburg Club - the ride takes off on the same day that the Tour de California begins in Nevada City on Sunday, May 16th! How cool is that? You won't want to miss these great opportunities to ride with the pros - you'll benefit from their cycling tips, encouragement and motivation!

Wishing you all health and happiness in body, mind and spirit,
Nancy

Trainer’s Tip Lana Pacheco
Lana Pacheco

Have you reached a “plateau” in your workouts and are just not seeing any improvements or changes? Or maybe you are bored with your routine and just don’t feel like coming to the gym? Then it is time to re-evaluate your fitness goals and your program!

There are many possible reasons why our bodies reach a plateau. The basic principle is that we have to continually challenge our bodies in order to see any changes. If you’ve been doing the same workout at the same intensity your body will adapt and reach a plateau. This can lead not only to boredom but also to the stabilization of your existing weight.

To spice things up try taking a new class, working out on a new machine, experimenting with a new discipline, or increasing your workout time or intensity. A personal trainer can be of great assistance so either schedule an update or sign up for personal training. Some changes could be as simple as adding additional resistance to your weight lifting.

What if you’ve lost weight and have hit a plateau? It is probably because you are either still eating the same amount of calories or working out in the same way. To break through the plateau you’ll need to burn more calories than you take in. The answer is simple, reduce your calorie intake and/or step up your workout schedule!

Here are some quick tips:
  1. Add more resistance. Take one exercise you are stuck on and add a little more weight for one set of that exercise. Lift as many reps of that set as you can. If you can do the whole set at the increased weight, great! If not, just do as many as you can and than lower the weight for your second and third set.
  2. Add time to your aerobic workout. Try adding a few minutes each week to your cardio. Build up to 1 hour of aerobic training three to six days per week.
  3. Add intensity to your aerobic training. If you are already maxed out on your aerobic training time, increase the intensity. Experiment with either a faster pace or more resistance – you can even try the increased intensity in short bursts of 30 seconds or less.
  4. Attend one of James Burkes Nutrition Shorts to get some healthy tips on what works and doesn’t work in your daily diet.
  5. Ask a Trainer for help if you are unsure how to do an exercise or if you just want something new to spice it up. We are here to help! Trainers can also offer personal training if you are ready to take the next step
Keep up the good work!
