Manager’s Message
Dear Members,
I am happy to announce that this year marks Sabrina Mitchell’s twenty-fifth year on staff at the Parkpoint Club! This is a rare occasion and one in which I am delighted to have the opportunity to sing Sabrina’s praises. I have had the pleasure of working with Sabrina for these last 25 years and her energy, dedication, commitment and talent have never ceased to amaze and surprise me. It seems just like yesterday that Sabrina began to teach group exercise classes at Parkpoint. Of course, back in 1985 these classes were called aerobic classes, we were all wearing neon, spandex and leg warmers, and tempting our body’s fate with super high-impact dance routines!
Times have definitely changed and Sabrina has only gotten better. Her expertise has expanded so that now she is also a highly skilled personal trainer and Pilates personal trainer as well as one of the best group exercise instructors this county has ever seen! Sabrina’s skills, expertise and talents are invaluable assets to the club and our members. She gives 100% of her attention and expertise to every class and each personal training client. Her students and clients love and respect her for the tremendous knowledge she so generously shares, her ability to motivate and personalize her workouts, and for making fitness just plain fun!
Sabrina’s loyalty, dedication, innovation, creativity, hard work and commitment to the field of fitness set a standard in the industry. We are privileged and honored to have Sabrina as such an integral member of the Parkpoint team and I wholeheartedly thank her for all she has contributed. She is truly a joy and an inspiration!
Wishing you all health and happiness in body, mind and spirit,
Nancy

TRAINER'S TIP:
Calling all Weekend Warriors!
Are you one of the “weekend warriors”? You know, Friday comes along and your weekend is filled with softball or basketball games, hiking, kayaking or biking adventures, or maybe just a gardening project. Then Monday comes around and you’re feeling the aches of pains after all that fun. What happened? You thought you were in shape? Why are you so sore?
A proper warm-up is the key to safe, injury-free and ache-free workouts. The best way to warm up is to do the activity that you are going to be doing, only at an easier level. For example, if you are going for a run, start by walking slowly and then gently increase the pace. If you are throwing a ball, start with short tosses and then progress to longer throws with more power. If you are running bases, make sure that you do some short sprints before the game. No matter what the activity, always remember to start with easy movements and progress to more explosive ones. Spending the extra 10-20 minutes warming up will help to keep you on the playing field and in the game. The same equation works for hiking, biking and gardening. Of course, don’t forget to stretch afterwards as well!
As Clay said in his article last month, go out and play, it’s healthy for you! But don’t forget some of the basics of participating in your favorite activity after a long winter’s break. For more information about the proper warm up for your activity, ask one of the Fitness Floor staff. If you didn’t warm up and you pulled a hamstring, we can help with that as well.
Enjoy!

SUMMER ADAPTIVE PE with John Adams
May 24- July 30
Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 1pm-3pm
What are the No Parking between 11:30am - 3pm signs all about?
John Adams is holding our first ever Summer Adaptive PE program. After learning that the SRJC Adaptive PE program would not continue through the summer, John teamed up with Parkpoint to offer a safe program for these students. John is an Adaptive PE assistant at the SRJC and has been a Parkpoint Personal Trainer for twelve years. He knows how hard those students have worked to get to their level of ability, and he wants to help them maintain and progress through the summer.
What is Adaptive PE? Adaptive PE addresses the needs of individuals that have varying degrees of ability: some use wheelchairs, others use walkers, canes, crutches or just need more assistance to perform their workouts. Parkpoint is pleased to provide a safe and effective workout environment for these participants.
To accommodate the Adaptive PE participants please avoid parking in the front parking area during the hours of 1-3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This will be a big help for the participants who need to get in and out of the building during these times. We want to thank you, our members, for being supportive of this program. We hope that it becomes a regular offering at the Club for those members in need.
If you are interested in becoming a part of this program or have a friend who is, contact John at 573-0842 or email him at kansaswineboy@yahoo.com. The program fee is $160 per person for 10 weeks of open gym under the supervision of John. The program is open to both members and nonmembers.

MEMBER & STAFF SUPERSTARS

Happy 25th Anniversary to Sabrina Mitchell!
Of course, back in 1985 these classes were called aerobic classes, we were all wearing neon, spandex and leg warmers and tempting our body’s fate with super high-impact dance routines!
With much appreciation,
Nancy Coughlan
Club Manager
